Activities for Dogs

Here are some of the activities that you and your dog can get involved with on the day!

We are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting the only South Wales heat of Scruffts in 2016. Scruffts is the nation's favourite crossbreed competition and is a great way to spend time with your family and canine pal. New for 2016 class sizes will be restricted to 30 dogs per class, with entries being taken on a first come, first serve basis.

There are six categories to enter:

  • Prettiest Crossbreed Bitch (6 months - 7 years)
  • Most Handsome Crossbreed Dog (6 months - 7 years)
  • Best Crossbreed Rescue
  • Child's Best Friend (6 months - 12 years)* Handled by a young person between the ages of 6 - 16 years old
  • Good Citizen Dog Scheme Crossbreed Class (for entrants that have a GCDS certificate at any level)
  • Golden Oldie Crossbreed

Free Treats

Free James Wellbeloved treats for each dog that enters a Scruffts heat (subject to availability, no cash alternative).

How To Enter Scruffts

Eligibility for entry

Scruffts is a competition for crossbreed dogs - pedigree dogs are not eligible for entry. Dogs must be over six months of age to enter a Scruffts class and must not be older than 12 years (if older than 12 years may be entered at organiser's discretion only). Scruffts rosettes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each class.

It must be stressed that only 1st place winners in each class are eligible for the Semi Final at Discover Dogs, London, in October 2016. However, in the event that a dog is placed 1st in a class it has already qualified in, the qualification will roll down and the second placed dog will be invited to the semi-final. In the event that the 2nd placed dog has also qualified in that class, the invite will roll down to third place. New for 2016 class sizes will be restricted to 30 dogs per class, with entries being taken on a first come, first serve basis.

How to enter

There’s no need to register or enter in advance; just simply turn up on the day at any of the heats listed and you too could dazzle the judges*. Entry to each class is just £2 and all the money raised goes to each heat's chosen charity and the Kennel Club Charitable Trust to help ‘make a difference for dogs’. The Kennel Club Charitable Trust is a dog charity which looks after the health and welfare of all dogs. It makes a difference by funding a wide variety of work ranging from supporting research into canine diseases, dog welfare organisations and the promotion of support dogs, all of which give dogs a healthier, happier life.

* except for the London Pet Show. You are required to register in advance for both of these heats.

Two Bridges Flyball Club

New for 2016 we have Two Bridges Flyball Club joining us to provide a flyball display and have-a-go flyball! Have you seen flyball at Crufts? If not, flyball is a fast and exciting dog sport that is perfect for any ball loving dogs.

It consists of a sprint up a line of 4 hurdles and at the end there is a box which shoots out a ball when the dog pushes the pressure pad. The dog must catch the ball and then make their way back up the line of hurdles and back to their handler.

Flyball competitions are held as a knockout with 2 teams competing against eachother until just one remains, making them the overall winners. Teams are made up of 4 handlers and their dogs.

Your dog isn't going to be of completion standard but all good fun!

Have A Go's

Would you like to try some new doggy activities with your dog? Come and 'have a go' at; Agility, Flyball, Scurries, Time Trial, Best Sausage Catcher, Fastest Sausage Eater and Egg and Spoon.

We have;

  • Two Bridges Flyball Club will be organising the Flyball
  • Friends Of The Dogs (Wales) will be organising the Time Trial and Best Sausage Catcher
  • Four Paws Animal Rescue (South Wales) will be organising the Fastest Sausage Eater and the Egg and Spoon Race

The funds raised by the Have a Go's are kept by the various charities and organisations who organise them. So please be generous and remember that every time your dog has a 'go' it is helping those dogs who are less fortunate!
